Connecting to Local LANProtector Server
Instance To directly
connect to LANProtector Server instance installed locally on the same computer
where LANProtector Manager is running, use the Connect Local Main Menu Server command
or Connect Local Toolbar command. When connecting locally to
LANProtector Server, access is immediately granted without the need to supply
additional login credentials. After the connection is established, Main Window Status Bar will show the local computer name in the
Connection Panel and update the Server State Panel. Connecting to Remote LANProtector Server
Instance In order to connect
to a remote LANProtector Server instance using computer name or computer
network address hosting the Server, use the Connect
Main Menu Server command or Connect Toolbar
command: To access
the list of previously used computer names and addresses, use the Server dropdown box: Clear button will empty the list of previously
used computer names and addresses. When
connecting to a LANProtector Server, LANProtector Manager will identify itself
automatically using the Windows Authentication and current Windows user
credentials. In a network without Domain controlled accounts, the same
Windows user name with the same password will need to exist on the LANProtector
Manager computer as on the computer hosting the LANProtector Server to gain the
access without the need to enter login credentials. If LANProtector Manager
isn’t able to automatically validate itself on the Server, the Connect As
dialog will appear asking for login credentials: When
connecting to a LANProtector Server hosted on a network without Domain
controlled accounts, User name and Password fields are enough and will need
to match user name and password of a Server computer local Windows user account
credentials. Note that most of the Windows Operating System versions by
default require for the user account to have a password set in order to allow
authentication over the network using that account. After the
connection to a remote LANProtector Server instance is established, Main Window Status Bar will show the remote computer name in
the Connection Panel and update the Server State Panel. Connection Details In order to
connect remotely to a LANProtector Server, incoming
connections on TCP port 52983 will need to be allowed as an
exception in the Server computer firewall. Accessing LANProtector Server
locally from the same computer using LANProtector Manager will work correctly
without this firewall exception. Connecting
over the network, sending user credentials and all communication between the
LANProtector Manager and LANProtector Server is fully encrypted and secured
from potential network listeners and hackers.
