LANProtector Troubleshooting, Unable to Access Server

Issue: I’m unable to login / authenticate to LANProtector Server

Potential Cause:

On the computer where LANProtector Server is installed on a computer in a non domain-based network, there is no corresponding impersonation user account defined.

Solution:

In order to access LANProtector Server over a network which is not domain-based (i.e. workgroup LAN or external connection), there must be a Windows user account on the computer hosting the LANProtector Server with the corresponding credentials for login impersonation.

Please make sure to create a Windows user account on the computer hosting LANProtector Server service for which you’ll know user name and password. Try accessing LANProtector Server using those credentials.

If the credentials match those of a client computer running the LANProtector Manager, it is highly likely that LANProtector Manager will automatically access the LANProtector Server without asking for user name and password.

Note: most of the Windows Operating systems will not allow logging in remotely by impersonating a local user account if the user account doesn’t have a password set! Please make sure to always set a password for the user account which will be used for logging in remotely to the LANProtector Server.

To create or edit a Windows user account, use Control Panel | User Accounts.

Potential Cause:

Computer hosting LANProtector Server has a policy of not allowing remote authentication using local computer account credentials.

Solution:

It is possible that Windows has a very restrictive Network access policy. Go to Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Local Security Policy. Then browse to Local Policies | Security Options and set the value of Network Access: Sharing and security model for local accounts to Classic – local users authenticate as themselves.
